If you use it to travel it will broaden your horizons, if you make an attempt to get away from the americanized sections of nearly every international destination.
Just getting a passport and staring at it won't do anything except make you wonder why your passport photo is so hideous.

a passport does not broaden your intellectual level on sociological prespective. it simply lets you enter and leave a country.

It woulnd't, no more than a Gym membership will help you get in shape, in and of itself, But USING it might help a bit.
