on your keyboard, do you see "£" or not? if you don't see it, then you have an American keyboard...you should get a British keyboard. if you do, then you have to adjust the settings for the keyboard because somehow, they have been set to US English. To fix that, go to "Control Panel"...then "Regional and Language Options"...then click on the "Language" tab...click on "Details"...in "Settings" click on "Add"...then for Input Language, select "English (United Kingdom)" ...click "Ok" ...click "Apply" ..then "ok"...you may need to reboot your computer, but after that, your keyboard should work

It doesn't matter what keyboard you have, you can select any language you choose including British over American English. Go to options and you'll find it. You can always keep US English in reserve, or any other language you might need, then you just click on the appropriate one in the bottom right hand corner, as and when.

£ - Shift and 3 works this sign on my keyboard, always has and still does. Strangely enough, I have modern keyboard, wireless, and no hash sign is available. If you are working with Microsoft, perhaps it may help if you contact their on-line help and ask them the question.
Good luck

Select "format", then "symbol" on your machine and then search for the pound sign. You will be given the option of choosing a shortcut key or combination of keys for it (that's what I have to do). Make your choice and stick to it. If ever you forget your comination, you can always return to format and symbol and look it up!

You can do nothing except replace it for newer keyboard. They are not expensives either.
There are three kinds of keyboard
PS/2 (old)
Serial (modern)
USB (using Universal Serial Bus)
Serial and USB work for modern computer. If you are using Windows 98, you will need a driver for USB keyboard.
