Seriously, with all due respect to other peoples opinions, as mine are only opinions and matters of personal taste as well, of couse.... you really ought to try to get all of these. However I made it real possible for you to listen to one at the bottom of this post. Why you should check out my recommendations, if you were only going to put time into a few;
I have a music collection of ~3,000 albums and feel I really, really know a vast array of music of all genres and styles and times very well. The colletion of, and desire to obtain and discover fabulous music is my hobby and passion, and it'd be a shame if you were not able to listen to these songs based on what you are looking for..... I hope you enjoy;
The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize
The Magnetic Fields - I Don't Believe In The Sun
Adem - One In a Million
Jeff Buckley OR Rufus Wainwright -Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover)
The Beatles - You Won't See Me
Zero 7 - In The Waiting Line
Iron and Wine - A History of Lovers
......but my tied-for-number one must-have must-acquire/listen to/download/whatever songa for recommendation, which are both each one of my all time favorite songs, as well as being RIGHT EXACTLY ON TOPIC for what you are seeking are......
Elliott Smith - Waltz #2
Beck - Lost Cause
Do a search for those titles one at a time, in Yahoo, just plug in the artist, the song name, and the word "lyrics" and check out the lyrics on one of the lyrics sites that carry them. They are excatly what you're looking for. These songs are emotional powerhouses, directly speaking about what you're looking for, and superbly written by two of modern day's best song composers (Beck, who needs no introduction, and the very sadly late Elliott Smith.... Winner of an Oscar for best song for Miss Misery from Good Will Hunting.)
Finally, you will have a tougher time finding the Elliott Smith song to listen to free on the net in its entirety, but I've included a link to the page where you can watch the entire video for and listen to the entire song for Beck's Lost Cause here in Yahoo! music. In the link provided, make sure you find the "Video" area, and click "Watch" and not the "30 second audio clip" area, which has only 30 seconds of the song and no video.
His lyrics are very clear and proibably need no looking up on a lyrics site to understand them.
Here you go. Good luck, I sincerely hope you enjoy.

Ah here's some corny stuff, don't know what it talks about, but hey they're good.
Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'"
Police "Every Breath You Take" that might be a good one. I guess.
