I think as a young person (like a teen) a boy will give this to a girl to show her she's special to him(or at least to make her feel that way). Its a sweet thing but I dont understand why grown adults do this. If your promising to marry her one day,buy an engagement ring.

There really is no point to a promise ring. It's just an excuse for a girl to wear a small diamond chip that her boyfriend gives her. I know of only two girls who received promise rings who actually went on the marry the boyfriend after graduation.

A promise ring is kinda like a down payment on a house. The guy sees what he wants but he might not be ready to buy. So he puts money on it (gives you a promise ring) so he won't lose the deal.

OK, here is my opinion on that. A promise ring still lets a bit of freedom be between you. He can go out and you will trust him. You can go out and he will trust you. It is a promise that no matter what you're both doing, you are promised to each other.

I've been asking myself the same damn question... my friend and I decided it's just a pre-engagement ring.. It's pretty damn retarded and promise rings should really just be for high schoolers.

To tell the other person that you care about them and that you belong to them. It's also a symbol for others to see your relationship and your love for each other.
