The decision to join a sorority or not is a big one. Making the choice of which is usually an even bigger decision to make. The decision to join or not should be based on several factors to say the least. The first of them being, what is your motivation for joining? Does the sorority that you have chosen or the ones you have to choose from support things that you believe in (ie Breast Cancer Awareness)? Can you afford the cost of membership? Is this a committment that you are seriously willing to make?

As a sorority member I can say that I think that one of the best things that I did during my college career was to get get my Master's, the other, to join my sorority. I love my sisterhood and there were many days that I may not have gotten through so easily had it not been for my sorors. I cherish their friendship even to this day! It is an experience that I hope my daughter grows up to have, but I am a firm believer that the choice should be hers. Sororities and Fraternities are not for everyone. That is something that you will have to explore on your own. Being a memeber of a sorority can be a wonderful and lifelong pleasing experience.

It can also be a disaster and one of the worst decisions that you can make if you join for the wrong reasons. So, search your heart, explore your reasoning and the sororities that you have to choose from and make the choice that is the best one for you, not anyone else. Because the truth is that none of our opinions really matter, you are the only one who will have to deal with the choice that you make...so make it wisely. Good Luck in your endeavor!

What's this thing about you needing to be a cheerleader that puts out to jocks to be in a sorority? I was in a fraternity and I'm not a jock. Almost all my bros and close by houses were not jocks. The girls I met were a bunch of regular girls. Only one or two fraternity/sorority lived up to the stereotype. I say go for it.

Depends on which school you go to. If you are going to a small school (1,000 to 15,000 students), you should. If not, you will be bored out of your mind. But if you are going to a big university, you really dont need to. There will be SO many people around and so many things to do. If you do join, make sure you join one that fits you. If you dont know which one that is, during rush week, go to all of the houses.

Not if you want to keep some sanity and self-esteem.

If you're the cheerleader type though, then go for it. You'll be putting out for every fraternity jock out there (which isn't much different than what cheerleaders do anyway!).
