It matters what you mean...
If you mean a huge, unyielding asteroid that will rain unmerciful destruction upon the earth, the answer is "no not really". They can however knock it off path.
Smaller asteroids up to a mile long can be made into smaller pieces that would "hopefully" burn up in Earth's atmospere.

there are rather some sky survey programmes familiar to hint super asteroids and area gadgets that could doubtlessly hit the Earth. because of the fact of constrained supplies and the sheer scope of looking each and every doubtlessly risky merchandise, we are in a position to basically make predictions for the asteroids we've located and familiar orbital paths for. That being suggested, it is assumed we've located the vast majority of rocks above a definite length which may be doubtlessly civilisation-ending activities. confident, super asteroids do pass interior of attain rather often than many people think of, often times in the moon's orbit, yet bear in mind that area is an extremely vast place. even while there are a number of doubtlessly risky rocks flying approximately, Earth is an extremely very small purpose. What you probably heard approximately replaced right into a particular asteroid, Apophis if I bear in mind wisely, it is expected to be a particular to-leave out in the 30 or so years.

A fusion bomb perhaps or an mega-ultra-ultra-sound machine that could be sent to its surface and vibrate it into tiny little pieces that would be blown off course by the explosion.
Just hope that they don't test any of these things on this planet. It's probably the next thing that they will do to Pluto.

It might be possible if we throw every nuclear bomb on the planet at it, but that is incredibly expensive. It'd be much easier and cheaper just to stick a big rocket in it and push it away. Such a mission would be as expensive as a moon landing or two, but I think you'll agree that it's worth it.

Sounds feasible. I bet global warming comes before the asteroid though.

I'm sure it's very possible we could destroy one now. As of now it is not of world concern, but when the world's minds come together for the betterment of mankind, I'm sure they'll think of something.

Maybe, but if they'll shoot something at it, they have to find a way on how to remove its sliver or something

I seriously doubt it. If there's one coming that soon, we're probably in deep doo-doo.
