How can we reduce racism in our high schools?

Actual suggestions please-small things, like having guest speakers from many different backrounds, or putting up posters. This is a homework assignment.

You can't! Unless you have separate schools for every race but that will never happen, you just need to teach kids not to be raciest.

Get some one local who has been through it and doesn't mind speaking about it and the effects it has on their life and how have they coped with it. Try finding some moving about it and cut clips out of them and make your own short movie.

How do we get rid of racism all together?! its something that starts at home with kids, what parents say and do affects the kids. Maybe classes about the issue might help. Our school (this is going back a few years) had a debate about racism once and it got so ugly that the principal came and our teacher got in so much trouble.
So maybe having a class about the issue would stir up more trouble. Something has to be done, we have come a long way from not letting "blacks" sit next to us on the bus etc. Maybe if kids were educated about what exactly happened when Africans were brought to America and sold, abused worked as slaves, they might understand that black Americans were brought to America against their own will! and in 2006 we need to get over that and treat each other equal!

Education regarding the multicultural diversity is the key
High schools have "clusters" and those need to be addressed and reduced.

Like World history, needs to be World Society and required the first two years of school with real research projects and social issues.

This is a junior high experience:
We used our ART classes to do that alot. Our literature, geography, geology and the obvious history and government classes to link the importance of "knowledge is power". The fun part was the international food of the week. Everything from Mexican to Asian- each had a bio and explained it all. South American fried plantains were a huge hit! Who knew the vegetarians really loved it.

We were lucky enough to have Rabbi, Lutheran Ministers, Catholic Priest and Mennonite brothers, to come in and talk about religion and their cultures. Many parents came to these as well. It was really powerful for all of us. We got the mayor and other business men to come give assembly speeches on the "topics" and normally with the request, we gave them some areas that they could effect our students by covering. Being a leader in our community it was a huge impact on us all. They really did step up. AT all the events our principle had a "can speech" ready in case of a no show, with a handout/project for the crowd.

Good luck!

By getting kids to stop thinking they are sooo much different than each other. Make saying words like niggad, wetbacks, rednecks, and terrist against the school rules to say. Have more multicultural activites like having a mulitcultural day. Incouraging kids to hang out in mixed groups. Make sure there are no racist teacher's, including the principal, and couslers... There are a lot of things society can do to reduce racism, but the sad truth is... all of these awful i deas have already been implanted into highshoolers minds... I personally think they should start enforcing ideas like these at a younger age...

Racism is Hate and hate comes from fear and ignorance.....
Teach eachother to accept differences and you would be setting the world free. Racism comes in all forms and is an unfortunate side effect of collective thinking... Be outside the box and see from the outside the effect racism has on society and in doing just that you will be forever changed

enable me allow you to recognize first that to refuse islam isn't racism, for islam isn't a race. we've the right no longer to love muslims and islam there are arabic, turkish, indonesian or perhaps europe born muslims. Their islam is probable to be fought. in case you opt for to reduce racism in France, imagine about those youthful arabs that burned a french flag, that tag "f...ok France" on each wall, etc. The regulation hostile to hijab is accorded to our lifestyle

Hahahaha you cant expect racism to just disapear just like that and dont just go to some groups and tell them not to be racist its not going to happen just make sure that anything racist you see you acknowlege to them to not do that specific thing, and dont say that what they are saying or doing is racist saying its racist will just allow them to keep doing it but with the intention and knowlege that they are being racist. Racism will never end until all races know about each other and acknowlege that they are equal.

idk. it is practically impossible. I'd suggest making the school diverse by getting different race teachers and teachers doing something if the kids make racist comments. There is, unfortunately, little that can be done.
