For the same reason brown hair is brown. Genetics determines what color an egg will be (or in other birds' eggs, what kind of pattern the outside of the egg will have).

because some breeds of hens lay brown eggs. they are no different in constitution than white. other breeds lay green, blue and turquoise eggs

They are brown because of the elements in them or the traites they carry thought the famliy tree.

Because the chickens were not given artificial hormones or steroids. The white eggs you typically find at the gorcery store come from chickens that were given these stimulants to produce a bigger egg.
