I don't own much stuff. My bf owns just about everything including the car I drive. I'm really having a hard time just paying my share of rent, making minimal credit card payments, etc.

I probably won't do it, but I just want to know what would happen.

Neither BK nor Credit Counseling is a good option. Both will ruin your credit for years to come. You better solution is to do the following:

get a 2nd/3rd job
sell all the stuff you purchased on your credit card
develop and stick to a budget
no eating out
no booze
no smoking

It isn't fun but it can be done and it's the responsible thing to do. Whatever you don't pay, the rest of us have to.

Good luck!

Bankruptcy laws have changed. You may still be responsible for your credit card bills but the interest would stop. It will affect your credit rating for approximately the next 7 years.

I would really think about it. Maybe a credit counselor would be a better way to go.

Your boyfriend wouldn't be affected at all.
