From what I understand, a discovery is some kind of evidence against someone. I need to find out and find out if there is a limit on the time for it to be transfered from one lawyer to another.

Discovery is the process of exchanging evidence and information between the two sides. Not all of the information exchanged needs to be admissible as evidence, as long as it is relevant to the case.

The specific rules and timelines vary by state, and by the local rules for each court. Where there is any doubt, the judge can clarify when discovery needs to be completed.
