If you are a fan of the sport not just a cheerleader when your team wins. the playoffs are the greatest you root for one team and root against another. Go Tigers!

Real Red Sox fans, not nouveau nation as Dan Shaunnessy calls them, have watched the post season in many years in which the Red Sox are not participants. If someone has only been a Red Sox fan since 2003, they assume that the playoffs are an entitlement. Longer term fans remember that 2000, 2001, 2002 brought no playoffs. It is the sacred duty of every member of Red Sox Nation during the post season to cheer for whoever is playing the Yankees.

Well, im a Red Sox fan as u can see but I still watch the Playoffs even though there not in it. It fun to watch and plus my second favorite team is the A's. Ya it would be more exciting if the red sox were in it. But I luv baseball all together and even though my team isnt in it. I still watch it. But no im in college and I wont get to watch it that much there like no tv in my room. And I cant watch online. : (

No, Red Sox fans prior to winning had that rep of being tormented angst ridden New Englanders (and with good reason). The White Sox fans tend to be more vocal and do boo their own players when they fail to perform (unlike Cub fans who are just too drunk to notcie bad baseball...I think the ivy puts them to sleep). But baseball is really a regional sport so fans tend to tune out if their team is not in it hence the low World Series ratings of late...this ain't the '20s thru '50s when baseball was #1.
As far as the whole country, I did not watch the World Series that year as it was boring. The NYY-Bos ALCS was unreal but the WS sucked big time thanks to Larussa again, the genius that he is in his own mind. Now if it was the Herzog era Cards vs. the Red Sox I'd have tuned in but you knew the Red Sox would win it once they broke that Yankee hoodoo. The WS was a foregone conclusion...no drama at all.

I'm a white sox fan, and a baseball fan. I'm watching the playoffs, and I guran-damn-tee you that the Red Sox fans watched too. Not so much because they wanted to see who wins, but to see the Yankees lose. I'm hoping the Twins and the Tigers go down hard, but I'm still loving baseball. There is my answer. A little hate, a little love, and a lot of baseball.

Personally I wasn't that concerned if they could win it or not. Yeah they were the feel good story but as a Pirates fan I was cheering more for the Cardinals. This year I am cheering for the Tigers in support of Leyland, otherwise I still wouldn't really care.
