In my opinion, although what the Pope said was true, he said it in the wrong way to the wrong people.

If you are going to give a constructive criticism to your neighbor (Islam) then you should do it to his face not behind his back.

The Pope's speech used Islam as a bad example of "faith and reason" to a group of Catholics when he probably could have found a better bad example in Catholicism.

Therefore it was appropriate for the Pope to apologize.

With love in Christ.

Who suggested the God protects the Pope any further than you or me? this theory isn't Church coaching. Matthew 4:5-7 states: Then the devil took him to the holy city, and made him stand on the parapet of the temple, and suggested to him, "in case you are the Son of God, throw your self down. For it is written: 'he will command his angels bearing directly to you and 'with their hands they might actually assist you, lest you sprint your foot against a stone.'" Jesus responded him, "back it is written, 'You shall no longer placed the Lord, your God, to the try.'" there are a number of loopy people accessible so the Pope likewise makes use of his God-given consumer-friendly experience and does not placed God to the try. yet another concept: If the Pope discourages an assassination attempt or perhaps stops an murderer from murdering him then the Pope could help keep the murderer's soul. With love in Christ.

should i have to apologise if i were to call all americans a pack of money-hungry, vindictive, selfish, ignorant leeches? i bet i probably would have to do a damn sight more than that, even though i could sure as hell show you plenty of people who would agree with that statement.

people forget that there are w@kers in every society. just because many people are opposed to the extreme views of some (SOME) islamics, it does not give anyone the right to condemn the whole group on the basis of these few.

the pope realized that it was innappropriate for him to cast judgement on anyone (judge lest ye be judged), and thankfully had the guts to say sorry for what was obviously an innaproriate and dangerous comment.

Sure, why not. He didn't have any real reason to quote the mideival Pope who insulted Muslims so badly, it was totally unnecessary. I wonder why he did it. Why antagonize people needlessly? And it doesn't hurt the Pope to apologize, it was a nice thing to do, conciliatory. I hope Muslim people accept the apology in the spirit in which it was given--we all need to grow up and respect each other and get along.

It would show humility to apologize. The Pope was wise to apologize.

Yes indeed:

Times like these, we MUST be vigilant of the things we say, and whom we say it to. These be trying times, a man of his stature and vast education, should have known better than to insult an others religious beliefs.

If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague!

I WOULD SAY WHEN EVERY MUSLUM ALIVE APOLOGIZES AND COMENSATES EVERYONE'S RELATIVES THAY HAVE KILLED THEN I WOULD THINK ABOUT ASKING THE POPE TO SAY HE MIGHT HAVE SAID THE WRONG THING. UNTIL THEN HELL NO THE MUZZIES KILL BABIES AND CHILDREN AND LAUGH ABOUT IT AND WANT SOMEONE TO APOLOGIZE TO THEM NO WAY. THE POPE NEVER WENT FARTHER ENOUGH WITH HIS SPEACH WHEN ARE THE MUSLUMS GOING TO APOLOGIZE FOR BEING SO BRUTAL? HAVE YOU PEOPLE FORGOT ABOUT ALL THE HEADS THEY HAVE CUT OFF? AND YOU SAY THE POPE SHOULD APOLOGIZE HELL NO NOT ON YOU LIFE.
