Simply Laura, it encloses the content of the nucleus - DNA, RNA, nucleolus and nuclear proteins. it controls what to be kept inside the nucleus -like DNA- and what goes out in the cytoplasm - rRNA, mRNA and tRNA- hopeful this helps, if in need for more details, don't hesitate to ask !
