You need 100% cotton batting for oven mitts. They sell it a Wal-Mart - a big roll of it is only $7. I'm making pot holders right now for xmas, and the pattern specifically calls for this.

I know I bought the right batting - it looks exactly like the stuff that is coming out of my store-bought pot holders, that are now worn out!

I simply use old t-shirts in the oven mitts I make.

Of course they are NOT flame retardant.

are you talking about batting, craft/sewing section of a store that carries that.
