Today I received a violation from Yahoo and my question was deleted. In the details to the question I commented that gay bashers were idiots. Now I realize that gay bashers are upright and very sensitive so I do not fault them for reporting me. But I do wonder whether is should have been violation. Also--I am not calling them idiots here--I just repeat the word so I can ask this question.
Yahoo told me it was a violation because I was making derogatory remarks about participants. I will admit I should not have used the word "idiot". It would have been better to use a more politically correct term--something like "seriously misguided."
But it seems dispropotional to me. I see somethings said about gays, different races and different nationalites that seems hugely inappropriate to me. But I guess the targets of these remarks are not as sensitive as those who are deeply offended by gay folks.
I dunno. I will probably be violated for this question.

The original question was "Do you think the gay bashers around here intend their remarks as humor or a public serivice?"
In the details I said "I realize gay bashers are i____. But do you think they make these hilarious statement with the intent of being funny or are they trying to perform a public service--a mission from God if you will."

I totally agree that gay bashers are IDIOTS. I think that the folks doing the moderating at yahoo are biassed or half-assed and should not have given you a violation notice.
This area of Yahoo Answers is subjected to so much abuse it is unbelievable. In this country if anybody should gatecrash a gay club or gay forum and use the sort of insulting language seen here, they would be arrested (and possibly be put in a mental home).

I only wish Yahoo would be as vigilant at deleting the bashers questions! Then I'd agree, you shouldn't call ANYONE names. But you know I report some really outrageous stuff that I see here, and they don't touch it.
In addition, there are some harmless pesky members here who post the nonsensical messages that take up so much space and make the system so hard to use, and Yahoo hasn't done one whole heck of a lot to try to deal with them either. So I guess maybe when one of US steps out of line, they crash all over us, but when its one of THEM...rarely does anything happen. Go figure.

Hi Becky, I had some violations come up,but most of them were someone just turning in alot of people, who didn't do anythnig wrong.Maybe you shouldn't of used the word idiots, but you were trying to stand up for a different kind of people, who are always getting put down,or worse.I don't think your question should of been deleted, but i'm not running this site.JUST roll with the follow, and be careful in the way you word things. A Friend who has been there...

If anyone reports your question it will automatically be deleted and you'll get a violation notice. Then when you respond to a violation notice and give your side the Yahoo people don't even read it or reply back. This is ridiculous in a forum like this. What is the point of Yahoo Answers if you can't give your opinion or respond to people you disagree with? I know it's retarded but in the future you'll have to use "id*ots" instead "idiots".

I don't think that calling a bigot an 'idiot' is a violation. However, the best way to deal with those who are narrow minded is to just ignore them. No response is the best response. I'm assuming that the only reason that you were targeted is because one of the bigots, or his/her friends reported you.
In the future, try not to react. This should limit the number of posts/questions that they will leave if no one responds.
Don't worry.

"Gay bashers" ARE ignorant. That's what you can say. But I agree with your original statement. Telling the truth should not get you in trouble, though it so often does.

I'm relatively new to all this and so I guess one must learn which words are acceptable and which are not. I didn't see your question but I guess it was offencive to some people. I do think they were a bit harsh. Live and learn I suppose. I have seen some pretty nasty things printed but I guess no one has complained. I compliment you on your tactful question. I guess it was acceptable.

what is freedom of speech? To report danger, yell "Tiger"! in a crowd?
It's using restraint in the face of the worst man does to one....it is not getting into the pit with the "whatever".
It stands - and you learned! They most certainly can be, but don't tell them.....
