for charis. I cleaned the tank every other day. I took him out with a little bit of the old water in a cup and scrubed the rocks and sides of the bowl. I NEVER used soup always just my hands and hot hot water. When I put him back I made sure the new water was the same temp as the old water or as close to it as possible. And i neutralized his fresh water with watercare chlor-out drops. The chemicals they put in tap water to keep humans healthy kill fish. I made sure I always changed the scenery. I know it sounds stupid but I would buy him a fake plant every other month. I kept him in a 1/2 gallon tank. And this is the craziest.. when I fed him his food he liked the red peices the best so i would pick them out and feed him those. He would actually know if i put a different color in!! But yea.. I fed him a little in the morning and at night. If you over feed a fish it will die because they do not know when to stop. So only a little in the morning.. and a little at night.

that is amazing! You must have done a great job caring for him! Post how you cared for him because I would love for mine to last that long. I have had mine...well I got them at different times...so..
Flicker - almost six months
Finneas - about three months
Flamenco - about 1 1/2 months
They are my babies. For Finneas is recovering from bacterial septicemia. He is going to be okay. I hope to set a record like yous. You should really post your care regimen. Thanks!

I think so too! I had one last me 5 years. It probably would have lived longer if I hadn't killed it. I cleaned his little decorative vase (with a plant on the top) and I thought he would like a little house or something inside so I got him one and he loved it! Well when I cleaned his tank for the last time (sob sob) I guess the house shifted and he got caught between the glass and the house and he died. I was sad. After that fish I got three others (at seperate times) and they only lasted weeks. I think they knew I was a fishy killer and commited suiside. Now I have a salt water tank and have loved them for three years now!

I've had mine a little over a year, but he lives with 6 sliver dollars, 2 bala sharks and 2 algea eaters. They are all happy though.... I hope he lives for ever.

I think 5 years . . . or something like that. It probably would have lived longer but we went on vacation and when we got back it was dead. We had it in my moms shop and people fed it every day so we don't know why it died.

I have had 3 bettas,
Turq, my first one I made a stupid mistake and he died at 6 months old :(
Narsil, my third one, just randomly dropped (or sunk) dead at 1.25 years old. He was really pretty
Mithril, my 2nd one is still alive, very hardy and is 2 years old

I think that is very old for a beta, ours never lasted more than a couple of months or so.
