Let's call Bill "n" and Bob "y"

So we start with two equations:

n = y +6 (this shows that Bilil is 6 years older than Bob)
n + y = 50 (Bill's age + Bob's age = 50)

So now let's substitute:

(y+6) + y = 50

and simplify

2y+6=50

2y = 44

y = 22

Now go back to the beginning

n = y + 6

n = 22+6

n = 28

Check it:

n = 28, Y = 22 X is 6 bigger than Y

28 +22 = 50

Bill is 28, Bob is 22

:)
