I'll also bet that your laptop performance also drops.

There's an icon in your system tray on the bottom right hand corner for power. Just hover your mouse pointer for the descriptions of all the icons until you find it. Double-click the icon. The window that opens will be your performance settings. Review (different model exhibit different settings). Check the situation to the settings that you have and change it to the highest for CPU and diplay. I think you may have it currently set to conserve power when the AC power is removed---this is by default. Once you set it to the highest, you can expect that your battery life will be diminished significantly. Hopefully, you'll not be using it for extended periods without the AC power.

Hope this help you,
Cheers.

You have a choice of plugging in to AC or running off the battery of your notebook. When plugged into the AC plug you have more power, when you unplug that your notebook will cut down the output to save your battery.
You can go into control panel, choose power options and make changes there to not have the power saved, but your battery is going to run down faster.. you might want to have an extra one on hand if you use it very much...

You need to find the setting to adjust the brightness level of your screen. The reason is gets darker when you unplug it is because the computer is now running off of battery power and it darkens to decrease the amount of battery power it uses to display your desktop.
