I ran a Ad-aware scan, it came up with Pop.A, aka popcaploader.dll
Apparently this is used to download "updates" for yahoo and msn games. Is this true???

I deleted it, but i want to know exactly what it does.

Thanks,

Jay

It is a legal adware called PopCap Loader from PopCap Games company. It is a Web plug-in that provides Web update features. You should be able to easily remove it by eliminating the file from the location where it's been detected and by cleaning out the registry files as indicated in the link below. It is "adware" but is required to run various games on Yahoo and a few other sites. It will be reinstalled the next time you run the games.

'Malware' is a cover all term used to describe any malicious software. This includes viruses, trojans (also called spyware), keystroke loggers, rootkits and worms.
Each of these is a different type of program, and needs a different security program to deal with it. So an anti virus won't deal with trojans.

An updater is a program often flagged by security software as a threat. This is just to be on the safe side, as updaters are often hacked and used as trojans; the idea being that security software will assume they are legitimate and ignore them.
If you messenger or games need this updater component, they'll alert you the next time you try to use them, and you;ll be able to download it again. If you don't need it you won't miss it.

When you use Ad-Aware its best to quarantine anything found and run your pc for a while. That way you can re-install it if it turns out to be a legitimate component. None of the threats in the quarantine are active and they can't harm your computer.
