It normally happens. It is called lactation amenorrhea due to very high prolactin levels. I had 7 months (c-section) and 10 months (normal delivery) lactation amenorrhea experience. You have to be careful though as the absence of period will not make you safe from getting pregnant. You will not know when you are ovulating.

It is completely because you are breastfeeding. Totally normal.

Between going to work, not being able to nurse my daughter as much, made my period come much sooner then I thought it would. Now here I am, my daughter is 4 months old and my breast milk has nearly stopped. I got my period for the first time 3 weeks ago.

Be happy you haven't gotten it yet, once you do, your breastmilk slows down.

Yes it is totally normal. I had my daughter in Dec. of 2004 and was breastfeeding her, and didn't get my period. I was also on the pill (the low dose for breastfeeding), but still managed to get pregnant and had my youngest daughter in Dec. of 2005. They are less than a year apart, so I went over 2 years without having my period.

Yes, very normal. I didn't get my period back until about a month and a half after stopping breastfeeding.

Completely normal. Genetics plays a role in how long it will take your cycle to return, but breastfeeding, especially if you're still night nursing (which of course you are at only 5 months old), will often delay your cycle's return.

Mine came back at 9 months post partum, and I was still nursing and night nursing. One friend's came back at 6 weeks PP, while breastfeeding, and another's didn't come back until her son started to wean at 26 months. Everyone's different but it's completely normal to not have your cycle back yet.

Definatly normal. Some women don't get their periods back until after they stop breastfeeding. You're just fine. Kudos for keeping on with breastfeeding!!

My baby is the same age as yours and I am breastfeeding her too. I love not having a period but it scary that I can't get on anything. I wanted a tubal ligation but got scared because so many people said you hurt more and your period stays on longer. Do anyone agree with that?

Your period will eventually come back. If you are breastfeeding on demand, then menstruation tends to come back later than sooner. Once you start feeding your baby solids, go back to work, or anything that significantly cuts down the amount of nursings you give to your child, then menstruation will return.

If it makes you feel better, I didn't get mine back until my baby was 8.5 months. I was feeling so "abnormal" because I didn't menstruate. Now I'm like...what was I thinking?! :)
