You ask a valid question. But the reality is that Americans know little about the culture of other societies aside from little sound bites on television, which frequently reflect a cultural bias. Our own cultural biases are reinforced by these sound bites, and the result frequently is that we qualify societies that are radically different from our own as sub-standard, backward, or lacking modernity, and blur them with other societies in the region. As such, most Americans (aside from academic types) have no interest in learning more from them; the condescending perspective is that _they_ need to learn more about us and become more like us. This can be seen in the tone and content of the other replies to this question.

On the other hand, through Hollywood and satellite dishes, many Saudis know far more about American culture than their American counterparts know about Saudi culture.

For my part, I learn about Foreign cultures by watching foreign satellite television. I don't watch the Saudi channel much, although I believe I saw "Barney" on it (in Arabic) while flipping through the channels. I watch far more Moroccan, Algerian, and Jordanian television programs, which seem more interesting (to me), and perhaps it is because they contain more familiar themes. By the way, I love Radio Deuce-m. Check out the link below and be surprised.

So, yes I care to know, but at the same time I will refrain from the culture-bashing others would engage in.

Most of them cover their faces except their eyes, it has been obligatory for them to do that for long time. Many Saudi women are liberals but the religious sect in the government is in control and wont allow them to do what ever they want. Saudi women are not allowed to check in hotels in Saudi Arabia.

The general image is that though Saudi women may be well educated they are not entitled to their own opinions and they do not have any say in many matters - this is more so when you compare their (women's) position even in many other developing countries outside the Islamic world.

Will you please tell us the real position?

We are interested to know more. Can you give some references to some good websites?

I would be interested to know.
I guess because Westerners do not feel that they have the ability to meet or chat to them because of the culture differences, that there are a lot of misconceptions.
I am sure that they are just as intelligent and as intriguing as most women that I know!
It would be nice to hear from you and have a chat!

They are Muslim, they are not allowed to drive a car, and like any other woman, they have good fashion sense, although they can't show it in public.
