My daughter came homefrom school today with a yellow diciplinary note pinned to her shirt. My husband noticed about 5 other kids also had the notes pinned to their shirts. Do you feel it is appropriate to ostercise students in front of their class in this mannor or shoud they be dealt with privately and a phone call to the parents about their behavior?

I agree. The situation should have been handled privately and then a phone call to the parent. Getting parent support is a primary responsibility of teachers. From a teacher of 40 years, now retired.

I wouldn't do it if I was a teacher. I think that may give other students an excuse to pick on them and set the mood for "cliques" . Positive praise for good behavior is a much better solution.

I strongly feel that a phone call would have been better and the note sent home with her belongings in discretion. No age is that appropriate.

i think problems like this should be handled over the phone not demean the students by having other kids being able to read it and possibly make fun of them.

It depends on the age of your daughter but it probably hurts her self-esteem.

If she stops acting up she will not be ostracized like that. Simple as that.
