I am a male in my early 20's and take a GNC multi vitamin with Iron in it. Someone told me I should get a multi-vitamin without iron. Is iron not good for you? Why do you think they would tell me this?

No iron is not bad for you the only down fall is it tends to cause constipation. Just make sure your drinking 8 glasses of water a day and you should be fine.

Everyone is going to have an opinion. If you want to know for sure, you should call you're doctor's office and get some advice. Everyone needs iron. Some people need more or less than others but everyone needs it. I would take a vitiamin with iron. The small amount that it would have wouldn't harm you, otherwise they wouldn't make vitamins with it in it. But check with the doctor or a nurse. That way you will know for sure.

There is nothing wrong with iron. It prevents anemia and has its function. You don't need a lot, though. The reason may be that excess iron in your system gives you black stools. It's not a big deal. They would tell you that because it apparently freaked them out when they took iron.
