A homecoming dance is generally held after the first home field football game, or close thereafter. Prom is in the Spring and has no association with sports. Also, generally everyone is welcome at a homecoming dance, whereas for Prom many schools limit it to sophomores and older. I'm really old lol, but 30 years ago homecoming was fairly casual. I understand now that it has become as formal as Prom, so the rules that used to be may not apply anymore.

homecoming is for all highschool pupils and in the begging of the year. its much less formal with shorter clothing. prom is for juniors and seniors on the tip of the year. females get long costly clothing and get their hair, makeup, and nails performed. specially circumstances hire limos or social gathering buses
