The nose is sensitive, you'll have lil crusties on your nose for awhile- just so ya know. They are easy to take out and put back in. Some have a tiny "bump" on one end so it stays in place better, some are called "fishtails"...just a curly on the inside so it stays in your nose. Either way, it will take some getting used to. LOL, you'll feel like you have boogies for awhile. Be sure to clean it every day with the solution and work the jewelry back and forth to get it super clean or else you'll have a red, swollen nose. Not good.

PS, when you take it out after you get tired of it, you'll have a dot where the piercing used to be. I have three dots on my face now and it's annoying! Nose, Lip and Labret... ugh

The stud is removed the same way you remove an earring stud. It's also the same as putting it back in. If your getting a back on your nose ring, I use tweezers to hold the back and place on the post. It no painful than getting your ears done. It just throbbed for a minute, but it healed up really fast. My nose has been pierced now for over 10 years.

There are several options here.
1. Nostril screw. This is your standard starter jewelry for a nostril piercing. Google it to see what it looks like. It is somewhat L-shaped and has a twist at the end. You can't change jewelry for at least 3 months so when the time comes your piercer can aid you in changing it until you get the hang of it.
2. Captive bead ring. You said you liked the "stud" look, so this doesn't apply.
3. A micro-labret. These are made for use in several piercings. It is a flat disk that goes in your nose and you screw the rest of the post on. There are also some out there with the post attached to the disk end so all you need to do is change the ball. Make sure only to buy internally threaded.
4. Nose bone. This is probably what your friends wear since they are like $4 and tiny. They have a bulb on the end and hurt like a mofo to put in and take out....this is because you are tearing the skin every time you do that.

Nostril piercings are not meant to have frequent jewelry changes.

i have my nose pierced. just got it done in late july. It most likely will get infected unless you never touch it at all. if it does get infected just leave it in and clean it with the solution that they give you or buy sea salt and clean it. It will take like a month or two to heal. there are diff types of studs. some are just straight and u have to bend them in a L shape and some have screws. usually u only find those in big cities like London or ethnic places. your not really supposed to take it off and out it back on. it will take much longer to heal. If its a straight stud then t doesnt huirt to put it in and out but the L bent ones are tougher and can hurt. The screw ones are hard too because you put the screw from the inside of your nose and the stud from the outside and meet in the middle and screw it. But its impossible to find the hole inside. I have yet to find it so im obviously wearing the L shaped stud. There are also spiral nose studs which is like a little spring that you twist in. i never bought one of those. Basically you should get ur nose peirced i think they are cute. try not to mess with it and try not to take it out more than you have to until its really healed which would prolly take like 6 months.
when u get it peirced it wont hurt that much itll just be the sound and the surprise. your eyes will water no matter what tho. Also the first stud they pierce ur nose with is usually an ugly silver ball or something else unnaturally big.
hope ur mother stops worrying, people get their nose periced all the time and nothing happens.

OK. It hurts a little. I got mine pierced, and flinched a bit. For studs, they have a curly backing, as described by some of the people above. So now that your questions have been addressed, I want to give you a quick piece of advice: IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES, DO NOT GET YOUR NOSE PIERCED!!!! I learned this the hard way. The part that goes through your nose gets all crusty and rips through the hole, its gross and painful. Mine never healed and I took it out. Granted, if you do not have nasal allergies, go for it. They are cute. Another thing, if you have had the cartilage in your ear pierced, it will be a good indicator of how the cartilage in your nose will heal as well.

It hurts more than an ear piercing but less than a lip piercing. There are a few different types of nose rings. One is shaped like a L. You see the period that is the ball and the short part of the l is what is in the hole then the long part of the l sits in side your nose. It's difficult to explaine I hope you understand. Then there is another that is a spiral and you srew it in and out. Also there is one that has a ball at one end that shows and the a smaller ball that you fit through the hole in your nose. This is the one I have and I can't get it out because my hole has closed up around it and is not big enough now. The other down side of nose rings is they take a LLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG
time to heal. Mine took over a year. It looked like I had an infected pimple on my nose that bleed and had puss come out of it. But it is your body your choice, I love my nose ring. Oh yeah your eyes will water NO MATTER WHAT!

I just hold onto the stud part on the outside of my nostril, and with a pair of "sterilized" tweezers, I get a hold of the back part of it and slide it off the peg. Easy as 1,2,3,. But you have to do this slowly....and careful. And always clean it super good before putting it or another ring back in. Good luck.

the nose stud isnt like an earing which is straight and has a back. a nose stud is curved so that when you put it in your nose, the post lies flat against the inside of your nose. its that simple.

it has a stem like a regular earing but on the end it has a lil ball so that it won't fall out.
And no it doesn't hurt, when i got mine done it didn't even hurt it just made me shed one tear b/c of the nerves in your nose.
And it is really easy to take care of. Just make sure when you get it done, never buy the nose studs that you screw in. They are a nusense trying to get out.

You don't need the backside of a nose stud lodged in your left lung or esophagus by an inhale at the wrong second.
