Apollo 11 was set on its first mission to moon on July 1969 with the following crew:
Neil Armstrong as the commander, born on August 5, 1930 is a civilian aeronautical engineer with Masters degree in aerospace engineering.

An Italian born Lt. Col. Michael Collins as the command module pilot, who was born on October 31, 1930 and a USAF having graduated B.S., U.S. Military Academy .

Col. Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin ( born as Edwin Eugene Aldrinas,Jr., on January 20, 1930) as the lunar module pilot. He graduated in B.S., U.S. Military Academy with a doctorate degree in astronautics.

The crewmen aboard Apollo 11 has lift off on July 16,1969 and landed on the moon on July 20 where they stayed for 22 hours and departed moon on July 21 and had splasheddown afloat the Pacific Ocean on July 24.

There are other members of the Apollo 11 crew who were not aboard on such mission yet took part being members of the crew who did not receive much of the credits on the success of the mission. They are the following: Lt. Col Charles Moss Duke, USAF as CapCom, Dr. Owen K. Garriott as Post-landing and Goodnight CapCom, Capt. Bruce McCandless, II, USN as EVA CapCom and Ronald Ellwin Evans, Commander, USN as LM Launch CapCom.

The crew of Apollo 11 were: Neil Armstrong (Commander), Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin (Lunar Module (LEM) Pilot) & Michael Collins (Command Module (CM) Pilot). As Command Module Pilot, Michael Collins had to remain in lunar orbit to communicate with the LEM (or LM) & Mission Control (Houston), while Neil Armstrong & "Buzz" Aldrin explored the moon's surface.
