I am able to ftp to my website from a friends computer no problem but using the same log in details (tried many times) I keep getting connection errors here on my computer. I have tried ws ftp pro, smartftp, and IE built in ftp.

I get these errors:

WS_FTP:

Error:"Finding Host umichclubsoccer.com ...

SmartFTP:
host:umichclubsoccer.com

Error:"[18:17:27] SmartFTP v2.0.997.4

I tried ftping to the direct IP but was unable to on this computer as well
as i mentioned I am able to ftp no problem on a friends computer via either method

I agree with the problem being related to something on my computer preventing me from connecting for some reason... (I walk to my friends computer within 5 mintues and it works come back and it doesn't)

Norton may be behind it... Anything I need to adjust with norton to allow for ftp'?

I suspect that your firewall is suppressing FTP port 20/21 in the IP stack. Check firewall settings and add permit on those two ports, UDP and TCP.

Good luck.

ping on FTP port, your IP addr and the server, tell me how it works, I'm on yahoo messenger

examine your connection settings, firewall, examine while you're at the back of a router, attempt making use of passive mode (PASV), if not, see in the experience that your ISP is filtering out port 21 (ftp) or attempt ftp-ing to a diverse website (and in case you're able to do it, yet another port) to work out if it works. in case you are able to connect with a diverse website with the help of making use of port 21, then the host you are trying to FTP to is filtered, down or misbehaving.

This isn't a DNS or password problem.

Are you sure the FTP server is still running? This is clearly a non-connect issue, so my first guess would be that the server isn't accepting connections. My second guess would be that your local firewall may be blocking something.

It sounds as though the host you are trying to connect to is not available or needs a user name and password entered before it is going to let you connect... that is what I read in the errors that you have put up.

looks like your DNS settings are not correct. FTP directly to the IP address if that works, then check your DNS settings against your ISP's recommended settings.

what all this is saying in English is that your user ID or password is not recognized. its interesting you can not access it from your personal PC. it makes me think the files for the site are on your friends PC not yours. is that true??? if so copy them to the same directory on your PC. good luck
