Is this a trend? Is it kind of like autism, being really strong in some areas makes you unbalanced and not adaptable to society and life? Or is there no connection, and it is just coincidence in these cases?

You know, I was thinking about your question just now and this might be a stretch - but maybe it has something to do with advances in technology. I mean, kids don't play outside anymore, people think that their "best friends" are people on MySpace whom they've never actually spoken to, people cheat on each other so easily on the computer, everyone has over 100 channels, if not thousands. I mean even for me personally, I have advanced degrees and spend all day on a computer with my iPod plugged into my ears. Do I actually ever socialize? Nope, not really. I even get weirded out at like, company events and stick close to people I work with. Seeing as I'm 28 and have only actually been in this techie age for maybe 10-12 years, I can only imagine how it's effecting younger generations. It's pretty easy to get left alone with your thoughts these days, reanalyzing things, getting disillusioned and grouchy.

Some people focus on a particular skill or trait. Sometimes so much that they forget to also work on other areas.

On the other hand, some people already have problems in one area, and they focus on the other area to compensate.

Either way, I think everybody to some degree has skills in some area, and have great difficulty in other areas. I think it is normal human nature. You do what is comfortable to you and don't do what is uncomfortable.

Can't use it as an excuse though.
