Talk to them calmly and quietly. (so other students can't hear) if they dont listen then talk to their parents.
Good Luck! For you and the student!

I guess that all depends on the student. How old are they? do you know anything about the student's mental condition or their home life? What were they doing or what was going on when this happened? Were they hyperventilating, crying, or just silent while they were in the corner? There's alot of questions to be answered before you know what to do. But the worst thing you can do is to yell at them or embarrass them. Most of the time curling up into a ball is a way a kid attempts (unsuccessfully) to find shelter from some sudden trauma that occurs in his mind (usually reliving a past moment). I mean it really depends how old they are.

After speaking quietly and calmly to the student, asking what is the matter, and if he/she will please return to his seat, or go to the hallway to speak about what is going on, I would call the guidance counselor. If the student remains in the corner, the counselor would have to come immediately, and possibly involve the principal and/or the child's parents. Something is very wrong, or someone is wanting attention or wanting to get out of classwork.
The guidance counselor will figure this out with your help. Good luck.

How old is the student? If older you might want to get the principal, if younger I would walk over and sit down with him and guide him outside and ask what's wrong with him and then call his mother.

I'd treat the corner for injuries and give the student detention.

Ignore the child...they are looking for attention.
Simply say ...when you get control of yourself you can return to class and then go on with your class. This behavior is designed to disrupt attention on the class as a whole and deflect attention to the child himself. If it's not working he/she will stop the behavior.

I would contact the parents, if it's obvious the kid is going through some kind of trauma. If they're joking, then punish them.
