I have my first college band concert this Friday at 6 p.m and I am nervous about it. All the history of band concerts that I have done have been good, but in choir concerts......well, not so good. I'm not in choir in college because of those things. Wel for this concert I know my stuff, what I'm supposed to play during the concert and when and I only play 4 out of the 7 songs of the concert. Do you think I'm overreating about this? I don't mean to, but I'm just worried.
Any advice? I know that if I trust God and try very hard that I can be able to do this. Help???

I have been performing since I was 4 years old. Nearly 22 years now. The most important thing is to prepare properly. If you have done this take a deep breath and let the practice take over. Trust yourself and your conductor. Again take a deep breath, do somthing to relax. Getting dressed in my tux for a concert relaxes me or listining to music unrelated to the concert. Or maybe go for a walk. But Take a deep breath and let you talent and ability do there thing. Good Luck. I am sure it will be wonderful. And don't give up on choir. Everyone runs into a bad teacher or experience once in a while.

honey i know exactly how u feel!!
i have been in a choir 4 3 years now so i kind of know what having a concert is about.but i have to say that i got really scared when i had to sing my solo so what i did, i took a deep breath 2 or 3 times it always works!!
stress is natural but don't let it take power over u i bet when u get on stage, I'll do just fine oh and once u start doing what u do it always is easy after so good luck I'll be supporting u (mentally)lol
by the way u can make a little prayer before starting

You'll do fine. You know your stuff, so just concentrate on playing your best.

I went to a number of concerts in college to see my roommate play, and she wasn't nervous at all. I think you get used to it.

Besides, even if you do mess up, the only people who will know are the other members of the band. If anyone messed up while I was at a concert, I wouldn't know it, since I'm not familiar with the pieces they played.

Good luck!

I've done this hundreds of times and discovered that you just have to decide that you don't really care what anyone in your audience thinks. If you screw up, 99% of the audience won't even know. The other 1% are people who've screwed up themselves and will be sympathetic toward you. If you screw up royally, well, just laugh it off. I can assure you that the great musicians have 'fat-fingered' more times than any of us. If it's something I really don't want to have to do, as the time approaches I just say to myself "I'll be totally done with this in 2 hours" or whatever. You can stand anything for two hours. :-) God Bless You! I hope sage advice from an old fart helps.

You will be fine, I promise. Worst case just hold your instrument like you are playing while you take a minute to regroup.

It's normal to be nervous. Once you get into it, your nerves will calm down. You know what you're doing. Relax and remember you can do this and know how to do it.
