Sometimes always reasons or trying to reason out first do the job already. Yet when drugs came violence/killings came even without reason.
I mean 3 drunks walking opposite me and 1 intentionally nudged me with his shoulder yet knowing and seeing it I gave him my elbow and as if shocked say 'sorry' to the two guys. The two guys saw in my eyes I can take all of them accepted my apology. The guy i elbowed was complaining and that they mug me. But the two guys know better and wave and left.

Now 20 years later, I saw the same thing happened yet the youths were stone high and after nudging the other guy, the other guy drew out a knife and about to stab the poor guy, yet stopped only when I shouted and attracted attention so they just ran away.

Reasoning is out of the question in alot of situations but that doesn`t mean there are other ways of difusing a dangerous situation .I cant get into specifics here but basically 99%of the time what you`ve got between your ears is what will save your hide .Its not really a question of what is better its what works better to ensure less damage or injury to yourself or others with you .

1. Containment is more preferable than violence.

2. Disabling an attacker, like kicking them very hard in the knee caps can buy you some time to get away.

there's not enough information in your intriguing question to decide upon this. there is always the third option - to run - which should be taken into consideration, but my preference has generally (not always) been for a fourth - to talk tough and seem as though violence is where you are heading. it has allowed a few potentially threatening situations to peter out/neutralise themselves

i do believe violence can sometimes be justified, but not always. and yes reasoning doesn't help because there are those who's minds are full or hate, evil, or blinded aggression.
