While selecting colors for a building, my boss stated that I obviously do not know anything about color because of my outfit! I was wearing black slacks with a light green shirt. What would you do or say back?

I would say nothing in front of the client, and I probably wouldn't say anything to the boss. But if you can do it calmly and privately and just ask what s/he meant by that, it might make them nervous enough to watch what they say in the future.

Is she married, heavy? If she's not married, I'd say, at least I know how to dress to attract the opposite sex, or "Sorry, I don't have to dress to worry about looking slimmer," or "not anorexic," or that I have a chest, so that is something I have to dress around, etc. Or, that apparently she'd never heard that everything goes with black.

Its not rocket science when accessorizing with black. Anything goes as long as you have one color running throughout! If that's what your outfit was, apparently she was threatened by your abilities and to "knock you out of the creative loop" she threatened you by "calling attention" to inability to accessorize.

She was petty and mean spirited and if I were the customer I would immediately question HER ability to manage people.

Start looking for a new job. Your boss has no class and I wouldn't work for him. If he had a problem with what you were wearing he should have told you before the meeting. After finding a better job, mail him a thank you card for being so rude to you, let him know how much you love the new job.

Nothing. If the client has any savvy s/he will recognize the comment as rude and coming from a small person who has no class.

Any retort on your part could be cause for termination.

I would laugh and say "Let's get back to more professional and relevant issues than the way I dress", then book him an opticians appointment when I got back to the office and leave a reminder on his desk.(He may be colour blind and not know it!)

I've never been one who takes crap from people like that. I say get him back. But quietly. Nothing he can pin on you. Sneaky and devious. Like sliiping viagra into his coffee or something.

Comment about how tactless he or she is in a passive aggressive manner.
