Sounds extremely expensive.

Was this brake job done by technicians who work on the space shuttle?

Parts should not have cost more than $150. Rotors - maybe $25 each. Pads: another $25 for a full axle. Calipers - maybe $75-100. Labor: maybe 1 hour -- another $100 tops.

This is a Mercury, not a Mercedes, right?
At $900, you paid way too much.
Sorry.

Nope... pass on this deal!

I'm confused as to the need for calipers and rotors. Calipers generally don't fail unless the car has been sitting for years or the brake system had the wrong fluid put it or it sat in water for a period of time and the calipers rusted. I was unaware that the Marquis had disc brakes on the rear... I thought they were brake drums and shoes. Drums and Shoes are more expensive than rotors and pads.. but still... $900 is a bit excessive.

I suggest you go to autozone.com and do a bit of price checking on parts. Their online system is pretty easy to follow and you can get an idea on how much the parts should be if you bought them. Subtract that from the $900 total price and you'll see what they are sticking you for in Labor. This is a three hour job by a shade tree mechanic... a 2 hour job (or less) by a good brake shop.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

The garage marked up all the parts and overquoted the labor. Figure 250 each for the calipers, 100 for the rotors, 75 for the pads and about 3 hours labor. Overhead markup happens.

a 92 Grand Marquis doesn't have rotors in the rear, it has drums. Definately doesn't sound right to me. You could buy a whole new 92 Mercury for that money.

you got hosed, that should have cost no more than 350 at most, rotors give or take 50 a piece, pads 20 per side, brake fluid 20 at most, labor at 45 an hour roughly, so about an hour per side and 30 minutes for flush, so maybe more like 400, I'd go back and rip that machanic a new one

That,s an extremely expensive brake job. I would think more like about 300 to 400 dollars tops.

Time to get your tools out and do the job yourself. Nothing sounds terribly complicated or difficult for a driveway repair.

sounds quite high
get estimates by phone from local garages
