When you learn to drive a rear-engine car properly you will find they are just great cars.
AWD is a nice feature - but a car from 1998 and older may not get a good warrantee anywhere - and I promise you, will be more expensive to have serviced.
If you can afford it the CS4 - would be the way to go....
Good luck and if you purchase - please consider joining your local Porsche Club of America region - you'll be able to have other Porsche owners share all their tips with you - they are good people. Their motto - it's not just the cars...it's the people!

all wheel drive is much better if you live in an area where snow accumaltes on the ground or if you drive on a non maintained road where traction is a must. especially in rain or mud.. Drawback being that fuel economy is lees with all wheel drive. If you live in a warmer climate, then the rear wheel drive may be the way to go.

i think i saw a tv episode from topgear about that, they raced (indoor rally course) the 4wheel drive version and the normal rear wheel, the 4 wheel was only slow by less than a second
4 wheel supposedly give you more traction so less of you to go under and over steer so all wheel is better for non-professional drivers like us

AWD is better for traction. Also you will have more controlle of the car in the snow and rain. Go with the AWD

According to Top Gear, the 4S is marginally quicker that the S.
But S is more fun to drive.
