We rent a house with no central heating and we cannot add any form of permanent heating (i.e. night storage etc). With this in mind what is the best and most cost efficient way to heat it through the winter? We currently use Dimplex freestanding heaters and an oil fired radiator - but it is very expensive.

you have the means to open up the different valve it is frequently set while the heating is put in. you will choose a spanner or wrench of the suitable length on the nut on the backside, and change anti-clockwise to open. previous radiators specially circumstances get complete up with sludge, disgusting black stuff that could convey mutually on the backside. If there is sufficient of this it could block the radiator altogether. If establishing the valve does not paintings, then try establishing up the drain plug slowly and notice what comes out. you may could desire to empty off most of the sludge until the rad warms up.

I don't know if electricity or oil is cheaper in your area, but I use electric heater with fan. It spread heat nicely throughout the house. I can at least tell you that it will warm up quicker than you oil radiator.

You could use the chimney or wrap yourselves with warm stuff and sweat shirts. Or you could go and buy stuff that heats up the house.

add a wood stove preferably in the basement and one in the living room area. You will only need to place stovepipe hole in the wall.
