TSS is very rare and you can cut the risks by changing the tampon often, using the right type for your flow (probably only a junior size would do you at the moment) and using towels at night and when your periods are coming to an end.
Just relax and follow the instructions on the box. This site might help you with whatever concerns you have: http://www.kidsgrowth.com/resources/articledetail.cfm?id=942

You won't get tss from using it once. And people generally only get tss from sleeping in tampons. Read the directions and the box and try it, you'll be o.k to use a tampon for a few hours.

There is an instuction pamphlet in the box w/a diagram to show you how to insert it and the sympoms of TSS. I only use tampons because they are more comfortable.

Call a friend, an aunt, a grandmother. Use of a tampon should be shown, not explained over the internet.

ummm ... ok since u asked....
you gotta make sure the tampon is perfectly placed in the aplicator... you put the aplicator in and you push it with the other part ... the tampon is in and the aplicator id out :)
only use it for a few hours they are good and never ever sleep with one in ... NEVER
