USA is a wonderful Country to live in and to visit. The link below will give you all the Legal information you will need.

U.S. Work Visa Applications:
H-1B Work Visa for Professionals:
H-2B Work Visa:
E-3 Work Visa for Australians:
All foreign nationals who wish to work in the United States must First obtain a work visa. A work visa is a temporary permit to live and work in the United States. Individuals who work without the appropriate visa are breaking the law and may be deported.
A work visa may be obtained prior to entry into the United States or the applicant may change status after entering the U.S. on a different visa. Changing status from F-1 Student Visa to H-1B Work Visa is quite common among international college students. H-2B Work Visas are available to workers without higher education, E3 Work Visas are only for Australian citizens, and H-3 Trainee Visas are available for short-term training at American companies. Application requirements for B-2 Tourist Visas are stricter since 9/11. Citizens of Visa Waiver countries are allowed to enter the U.S. visa-free for up to 90 days. Check if you qualify for the Visa Waiver Program.

Finding a job in the USA is pretty much the same as any other advanced country. It all depends upon your education background and experience. If your coming to 'visit' then your visa maynot allow you to work. That is something you should investigate prior to travel to insure you have the right type of visa.

As for the job market, I suggest you repost your question with detail about the type of job you are looking for and the area in question. Also put in your question your education background and experience. You stated you don't want to be a waitress.. but you don't state what you want to do. The US is very diversified and where there is a huge job market in one location for a specific career another state may have no job market for it.

To answer the eduction question. A degree from a school/university/college abroad is just as good as one to a compariable school here.

Good luck !
