I have always heard this quote. Is it possiable for a crazy person to know that they are crazy? I know it is a stupid question, but I'm bored right now, so just humor me.

Yes, I think it is...however it's a frightening thought and gets pushed to the back of my head when it comes up.... I think it's more possible during the early stages of insanity, and as whatever mental illness is taking over advances, this awareness ceases to matter.

I have heard this quote too. I've read about mentally ill people and worked with them. The books will tell you its true - a mentally ill person does not know they are ill. However, when I was volunteering at the State Hospital, I worked with Level 2 patients. They were not comatose but medicated. Many were schizophrenic. I had to teach them living skills and how to act in society knowing very well they would not be out there alone for long. One of the questions I asked in a workshop was "What does it mean when someone says that you are crazy?" Well, one of the patients who rarely interacted without anger looked up from her notes (she was paranoid and took notes on everyone). She stared at me with a dead stare and says "we are all a little crazy sometimes." Soooo I'm not sure if they know . . . .

Well, some do, some don't ...... it depends what you mean by crazy, I guess.

Eg - there have been some truly pyshoctic folk that have failed to realise they have mentally disfunctional thoughts, and then there are varying degrees of mental illness, eg, schizophrenia or some forms of depression where the "crazy" person does indeed acknowledge their grasp on reality is wavering. Virgina Woolf for example and John Forbes Nash

Yes, you are crazy and delusional. Here are some medications that the other voices in your head said was OK to have. For some reason others usually take great joy in feeding the delusions of others because it seems they themselves are delusional and don't want others to know by deflecting it on others. In one way or another we are all in denial and at least slightly crazy because of it.

Ha ha. I have a somewhat crazy family member, and we joke that she is probably the only sane one and we are the crazy ones.

well, i think somehow they still know they are doing something "wrong"...which is why they write suicide notes, or make plans, get guns, etc...they know it's wrong, that's why they hide it!!! however, when u get to the point where u'r willing to kill urself as well, i guess reason and care and respect for other people goes out the window, ie Reason out, Insanity in!
