I am directing community theater in New hampshire and I had found a dance choreographer on Craigs List but now she says she can not do it. Where do you think I should go to find another one. Auditions are in November and rehersals don't start till January. Show is in April. This is not a paid position as it is community theater.

Usually the people in theater know each other. Ask the person who said she can't do it, if she has some people that she can recommend, and the best way to get in contact/find the folks that like to do this sort of thing. The important part of administering volunteer theater programs is being in touch and involved and known in the theater community and to encourage volunteer participation so that you are not dependent on a single volunteer. The mistake volunteer coordinators make is to treat their volunteers like dirt, and then are surprised and overwhelmed when a key volunteer or all volunteers quit. I have seen community theaters loose their whole volunteer staff in a single week, due to nasty administrators, and act dazed about what happened.

Dammit -- which show?

I'll go with the others -- try the local dance studios, they all know each other and do community theater too.

If it's high on concept, try the Modern Dance program at the local college.

Next time, name the show so we can be specific and help with the best advice.

Hi there.
Why don't you try to contact the local dance studios or even the local colleges and/or universities for grad students or teachers that might lend a hand and perhaps work out an arrangement so they can piggyback the advertising or in program advertising if your budget is minimal?
It might work.
Think outside the box and good luck.
