My favorite: THE HARRY POTTER SERIES by J.K. Rowling An inspiring work: The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephan Chbosky A childish fantasy that's also really gripping: The Lightning Theif (even though the movie sucked) by Rick Riordan A Romance: The Twilight Saga (I know what they say about it but I actually kind of loved it) by Stephanie Meyer A wonderfully terrifying dystopian fiction: Feed by M.T. Anderson Or a sad and haunting love story: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green Hope you like these they're my favorites besides Divergent and the Hunger Games

Awesome question, and it's nice to see that you're reading!

I would try "Stargirl" by Jerry (I think) Spinelli. It's about a kind of different girl who names herself Stargirl, sings loudly to people in the cafeteria, and changes the life of one young man. Great, quick read.

Another great read, a little more serious but destined to become one of your favorite books of all time, is "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky. By the end of the book you'll have laughed your butt off, fallen in love, and cried your eyes out. You can't help but love it.

You also might want to try "Lucas" by Kevin Brooks. It takes place in England on a small island. One day, a very strange young man names Lucas shows up and changes everything. More dark than the first two, but I've had many a student (and colleague) tell me it's their favorite book.

And, of course, you have to check out "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson. A new classic, it's the first-person narrative of Melinda, a girl who was raped at a beginning-of-the-year party. It's laugh-out-loud funny, yet very real at the same time.

Please email me if you want any more suggestions! I'd be happy to oblige!

Try Susan Juby's Alice series. It's about a 15 year old Canadian girl with a unique sense of humor and fashion. It's a really, really funny, yet thoughtful book.

XANTH (fantasy series)
1 A Spell for Chameleon Del Rey pb 77
