Of those, I'd pick the Bonneville. The Grand Prix GT is Supercharged (? - depends on the year), and the Jeep is something a new driver should avoid - the dreaded SUV. More prone to rollover, etc.

4WD isn't a bad option, especially if they intend to do a lot of winter driving, but beginners should try to stay off the roads during the storm if at all possible. Sometimes 4WD gets them in further over their head as well.

BTW, Toyotas are NOT more reliable. Check out their forums there for broken vehicles. You'll find just as many posts as in this Pontiac group. Also, the Bonneville / Grand Prix will get about 30 MPG. There are toyotas that do better, and some that do worse.

if the kid really is responsible let them decide and make a resonable choice. if not, the jeep would definatly be my pick because it's big and safe on the road and doesn't look like a middle age mom's car (the grand prix/gt) or an old woman on her way home from church car ( the bonneville). so give your kid a break and get him the jeep. plus you shouldn't have any problems out of the jeep it's the best 4x4 by far. and it works for girls or guys.

a compact car of some kind, not a truck or SUV, too big. Toyota's are great, I had one and it lasted forever. Honda's are also good but a bit more expensive than Toyota. If it has to be one of the three listed, I'd choose pontiac grand prix

check em out there girl all of them to see which is good for you. If you can have your dad go with you to check out whichever one it is that you like . Checking the engine, motor , transmission, maybe even taking to mechanic to give an OVER HAUL OR ONCE OR EVEN TWICE OVER LOOK. CHECK also for pricing in surrounding areas after all you don't want to be the only one that paid twice the amount of the acutal retail price of a car do you? Also you don't really need no "2006 or even 2007" vehicle start with maybe a two thousand and go from there after all of the vehicle will be six years old or older as time goes by right ? !! We can't keep'em new always and forever and the payement on those new vehicles will be higher than an older model one.

I think neither...trust me on this one. I know a lot about cars and getting a 4X4 or any american car like the ones you have listed will cause problems in the future and the gas milage will be horrible. I suggest a import car because of their great gas milage and there is little worry about maintaince. I suggest a civic, corolla, or if you want some kind of SUV, then probably the Rav4 would be a smart choice. Its all up to you though

Check out insurance rates first. Generally, a throw-away car, one that you pay cash for and have liability only insurance, plus, you don't mind losing if it gets stolen or, God forbid, crashed, is the best first car to buy. I don't care how "responsible" a teenager might seem, they still are at high risk for OOPSOHSHIT! My son bought an '89 acura integra for less than $1000, and it costs $55/month to insure with liability only. Good car, cheap rates, and I don't mind if it gets banged up.

without any more knowledge, I would have to say go get the Jeep.
Unless, they are wrecked, Jeeps hold their value.

I would also like to say that unless the car is not needed for work or college, wait untill after all the high school drama is over.

If you are not in heavy snow country, 4WD is not a necessary, It does make a vehicle drink more gas as compared to the same vehicle with 2WD.

Good Luck

Get an awd subaru. It will out handle and get better fuel economy than any of those cars. SUV's suck, nobody really needs them.

If you really are responsible you could look into getting a turbo model. Drive a wrx or a gt legacy and you wont look back.
