Which do you think is better? What are you going to be using it for?
Dependent on which Thinkpad you are looking at.. here is one configuration..

Pros: solid build quality, long batt life, a/b/g wi-fi, quiet and doesnt get hot, bluetooth, thin and light, nice keyboard, programmable touch pad, bright SXGA screen. powerful graphics. Great service from IBM tech.

Cons: expensive, but worth it. no dvd burner or flexview screen, no DVI or firewire.

Dell Notebooks are the same, it depends on which one you are looking at..
Pros: Compact, good battery life, dedicated GPU, lots of power, nice look and a lot of other things. I am so far very happy with it and the screen feels surprisingly usable even if it's only 12".

Cons: To much reflection in screen, keyboard feels to hard for a touch typist and enter is placed far to the right. A bit heavy for the size.

It relies upon what you're searching for. i'm making use of a Dell Studio 1555 presently and it works positive, Dell shopper provider is CRAP, as interior each week of making use of it, I have been given a blue show screen errors like randomly at random periods. Dell have been attempting to make me pay 70 pound on good because of the fact it became right into a application problem, and in the event that they could no longer fix it, they stored the funds besides. interior the tip i in basic terms deleted a homestead windows replace and labored positive ever because of the fact. It rattles a lot and makes a extraordinary sound each-time i press this particular key. that is because of the fact different colorings they use jut clip on, mine keep popping out. Dell are solid in case you want to customise it, you may elect what hardware and application you elect. IBM are solid, by no skill had one, yet my sister and uncle had the predecessor the "think of Pad" and is solid, in basic terms no longer up for todays application and desires because of the fact of direction it is old. i could reccomend Dell, yet dont purchase an Inspiron, as they have the main issues because of failing batteries and such, i mean you dont recognize what number questions are published relating to the Inspiron. choose for the Studio or greater, as they have not have been given any issues in any respect. the only issues are Microsoft :D
