I recieved a PSP from circuitcity.com that I did not order. Upon calling them and asking who sent it, they could not identify the sender. The package was not billed to my address or any of my debit or credit cards. Can I be held liable if I keep the contents of the package? It was, after all, sent to me, and so far Circuit City sees nothing fishy with the transaction.

Also, if it is legal, which law can I cite to cover myself?

I believe the law is .... if something is delivered to your address with your name on it and you did not order it, it then becomes your property and you are not liable for it.

Check federal trade commision, BBB, USPS. sites

There are state and federal laws that protect you.
You DO NOT have to return it !!

Congratulations on you new PSP!

The law is quite clear on this. It's a gift, and you can keep it without worry. You did all you needed to do by inquiring with Circuit City -- and you did not even have to do that. Since you did contact CC, keep notes of as much of the conversation as you can so that you can defend yourself in the unlikely event of a subsequent inquiry.

the law goes by logic - what a reasonable man would or should do. in your case -- just return the article to the last --originator i.e. circuitcity etc. have them give you a proper receipt. keep it. and forget about the incident. if they come back - deal with it the legal way.
PS. in business errors are done -- in voluntarily i suppose and for the smooth running of our economy and communications we need honest people around to correct human errors. enough said.
