I have a Belkin Wireless Router. For some reason I keep "losing it". I can still see all the other routers in my building, just not mine. And since everyone else has there's encrypted, i cant just piggy back off of them till mine comes back. I called Belkin and they said that my router was getting lost in the clutter of the other routers. They had me input the routers "ID" into the laptop, but if I do that, I cant use the wireless network at school!

Is there a way to make my Router Stand out? Mabey if I encrypt it? Help! My wife is going to kill me if I cant fix this!

Have you tried changing the channel? Usually they are on Channel 11 by default. I believe another one you can try is 6.

Other things to look at are, do you have a wireless phone or anything else that uses the 2.4GHz band?

You should be able to use the network at school, even with a static IP for yours. You just need to add a connection with a different SSID and tell it to connect to whichever one it finds. You will need XP SP2, I think, though.

now you need to set up a network id & password on the router
you will be told how to do all that when you install the drivers & software for the router

I had a Belkin once and once was enough. I kept losing the signal to it atleast 3 times a day! I finally threw it away and got me a Linksys WRT54G and haven't had any problems with it.

Use Linksys instead and name the SSID something you will remember i:e: My own freakin network! or something like that also you might want to change your channel

Do you have it setup to broadcast the SSID?
