my friend lives with us and he has a wiener dog that is mean and not good with other pets. i want a pet but hes very picky about this dog. i dont even know how to talk to him about the fact that i want a pet. but my heart is crying out for a pet to love and care for. please help

I have gone through this recently. I would suggest getting another senior dog. Probably not the same sex either. Getting a puppy would probably not set well with an older dog. Take this dog with you when you go pick out your new one. There are some great rescue agencies that will let you spend some time with a new pet to see if it is a good fit for your family. I have a 10 year old terrier mix and we brought in a 3 year old male poodle. They have their moments but Spike usually rules the roost. Good luck in finding a new pet.
