If a book was too boring, I wouldn't bother reading it.
Incidentally, War and Peace was my favorite novel from the time I read it when I was 28. It was a wonderfully rich, multi-layered story by one of the greatest writers of the 19th century.

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

It wasn't really boring, I just had difficulty following it. Many of the characters had the same first name. It was a challenge.

I also had to read portions of it in Spanish for my Spanish classes. Now, THAT was a challenge.

I have nver read a boring book as a result of the following policy:

If a book is good then it will be made into a film.

I can watch it then.

If it isn't any good it will not be made into a film so I know not to read it.

The Mayor of Casterbridge. And apparantly a third of the original manuscript was lost. Thank goodness, I don't think I could have lasted much longer. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Sorry Thomas. I liked Tess of the D'Ubervilles...

My maternal grandfather was a pastor, so I had to read the Bible when I was a boy. Is anything more boring and depressing? Even the stuff assigned in Literature classes, e.g. Truman Capote's "Other Voices, Other Rooms", was entertaining compared to the Bible.
