Correction: 1 mi is 1.61km
http://www.google.com/search?q=mile+to+kilometers

(40 mi/gal)(1.61km/1 mi)(1 gal/4 qt)(1.06 qt/1 L)
= 40 * 1.61 / 4 * 1.06 = 17.1 km/L, I think

You should learn how to do this yourself, though. You should learn whether to put mi or km in the numerator and denominator, etc. Basically, do it so that the units that you don't want will cancel out, and the units that you do want will not cancel out.
