What should a student major in if they want to get a DVM and become a vet?

I've heard several answers to this question, like bio, chem, zoology. and agricultural sci. Which is best?

I was Zoology Pre-Vet for a while during my college career and that seemed to be a good fit to me since I was interested in animals (which was why I was going to be a vet in the first place). At my school, that major required a lot of chemistry anyway, plus you got animal anatomy and biology too. Just seems like a natural fit if you are going to be an animal doc.

My cousin completed a major in zoology before getting a DVM and becoming a vet. She said that the major helped prepare her for her career, since it dealt mainly with the study of animals.

Depends on type of vet, large animal or small like cats and dogs? Large animals zooloy and ag sci is a must, smaller animals bio is a must.
Also medical helps.

I'm in Animal, Dairy, and Poultry Sciences- PreVeterinary Medicine. Several people major in Biological Sciences, though. Goodluck :)

Science/biology, chem, bio chem are the essential basics. Plus any courses that specialize in anatomy, physiology, (marine biology)re of all life forms. Mammals if that is what interests you, a course in toxicology would be useful as would study of infectious diseases.
