Because once you've had that first one, your taste buds are a little desensitized, and you aren't hot and thirsty anymore, so the pleasure of the first few cold, thirst-quenching swallows is past, and then ALL your senses start to get dulled a little by the effects of the alcohol in the beer.

Yikes! The first beer is usually a killer for me, unless it's really hot outside or I'm super thirsty for beer for whatever reason. Most of the time I have to force them until I get to about the third, then they just keep gettin better!

Because when you really crave for a beer that second and when you drink it you satisfy your wants. After the second drink, your cravings start to diminish.
