About the size of a fist or exactly the same size as your fist. hmmm. if its plasterboard its easy to do yourself cut the fist shape square with a Stanley knife and a straight edge. Get two slats of wood that are quite strong. feed the into the hole and screw through under the hole into the wood and over the hole.You should have a square hole with two strips of wood running through. cut a piece of plaster board the same size as the hole put in against the slats of wood. screw it to the wood. get some filler and match to surrounding plaster work. let dry sand and paint the whole wall again. done

Then go buy some spackle and some fiberglass patch screen.
